Peace In Our Time...We Hope.
On the 5th of April 2063, humanity had survived the end of history and discovered that they were not alone in the universe. Rebuilding took time, but with hope in our stars, we rose to the challenge and took our place among new allies and contemporaries. Aloof Vulcans, weary Andorians, and tenacious Tellerites were just the few who welcomed this new addition to their interstellar fraternity.
We established colonies on the worlds of our own solar system and beyond, travelling the slow road of low warp. But we were content, for all of our tomorrows were better than our yesterday's. This expansion was spearheaded by the United Earth Space Probe Agency, the collaborative effort of all nations of our home to seek out new worlds and new civilisations.
And nearly a hundred years later, some would say it was our downfall.
Ships going missing beyond the outer sphere of United Earth space was nothing new, even with faster-than-light travel space is huge and our nuclear-powered vessels are small among the firmament. But when a supply convoy arrived above the newly founded colony of Telus V, they found they had company. An unknown vessel lay in orbit, silent and enigmatic. All hails were ignored, both from the ships of the convoy and from the colony.
What was retrieved from the wreckage of one of the barges following what would later be known as the Telus Massacre, laid no doubt as to the events that sparked what came next. The alien vessel struck at the convoy, disabling and then destroying the poorly armed freighters. It then turned its weapons on the colony, evaporating it under the cloud of an atomic blast.
‘For the glory of the Romulan Star Empire’ was the only broadcast made by the alien ship, a call made in perfectly formed English. They had been watching us. They had been waiting. And now, in 2157 a year after the Telus Massacre, the United Earth Space Navy fight a war against the encouraging talons of the Romulan Star Empire.
It is not going well…
